Talk:Exchange-traded fund

From finiki, the Canadian financial wiki

Reference 2, http://www.tmxmoney.com/en/sector_profiles/exchange_traded_funds/funds/funds.html actually lists a few more providers, Invesco PowerShares and XTF Capital’s eXchange Traded Funds that are not included in the finiki list. The information on them is sparse and based on a quick check their offerings seem to be more slice and dice, should they be included? --Peculiar Investor 17:24, 15 December 2011 (MST)

Yes, we're listing not recommending. "finiki has a neutral point of view'.--Shakespeare 17:33, 15 December 2011 (MST)

True, but then we're duplicating information, why not send them directly to the TMX link? The nuances I know. I actually think we should be expanding the listing based on FWF posts and information, i.e. the pros and cons of the various families. --Peculiar Investor 18:03, 15 December 2011 (MST) and while I'm typing here, Adrian2 is being bold and just doing it --Peculiar Investor 18:06, 15 December 2011 (MST)

Should this page be moved to lower case? Exchange traded fund or Exchange-traded fund

Any thoughts?

ETF providers

Hum. I updated the table of ETF providers, but it now shows up in the wrong section. Help? --Quebec 07:49, 27 December 2014 (MST)

Closed-end funds

Within the lead section of the ETF article is the following paragraph:

An ETF combines the valuation feature of a mutual fund or unit investment trust, which can be bought or sold at the end of each trading day for its net asset value, with the tradability feature of a closed-end fund, which trades throughout the trading day at prices that may be more or less than its net asset value[citation needed]. Closed-end funds are not considered to be "ETFs", even though they are funds and are traded on an exchange[citation needed].

A lot of people know what an (open-ended) mutual fund is, so comparing ETFs with mutual funds is helpful. However not many people know about closed-end funds. finiki does not have a page about closed-end funds. So do we really want to keep this paragraph? (for many readers it may be more confusing than helpful) --Quebec 17:48, 6 January 2019 (CST)
