Talk:Indexing

From finiki, the Canadian financial wiki

Is the topic of this article clear?

As work might be happening to expand this article, I find myself questioning the content of the article. Is it about indexes and how they are constructed and which ones are significant to Canadian investors, or is it about the passive investing strategy to index? The current contents would suggest the former, the category and article title being a verb would suggest the latter. I would therefore purpose making the subject about the investment style or strategy of indexing. Some or all of the content can be retained. The Bogleheads wiki has their indexing article that can be mined for ideas. I'll probably take a run at revamping the article content sometime today. --Peculiar Investor 07:19, 21 January 2015 (MST)

Alternatively, indexing, the investment strategy, could be covered in passive investing, a mostly empty page for now. Indexes (how they are constructed and which ones are significant to Canadian investors) could be covered here, reflecting the current contents of the page. This would mean renaming this page "index", and possibly changing the category. --Quebec 15:54, 21 January 2015 (MST)
The page is indeed confusing, as the page opens with strategy then proceeds to describe the equity indices. Fixed income indices are missing. --LadyGeek 19:57, 21 January 2015 (MST)
Took alternate approach, split into two articles. Index is now a standalone article rather than a redirect to this article. Still work to be done, particularly figuring out relationship to the passive investing article. --Peculiar Investor 21:23, 22 January 2015 (MST)
