Talk:Canadian account types

From finiki, the Canadian financial wiki

I added a few references that might be utilized in the proposed new page on mutual fund companies. The intent is to provide a starting point, not finalize the text here. I'd also like someone to double-check that the sources meet finiki's standards as a credible source. --LadyGeek 18:38, 12 August 2013 (MDT)

On second thought, the terminology on this page should be at entry-level. The formal definition and link are more appropriate for the new page.
Mutual fund company: Business entities, both privately and publicly owned that manage, sell and market closed-end and open-end funds to the public. They typically offer a variety of funds and investment services to mutual fund investors that include portfolio management, record keeping, custodial trust, legal, accounting and tax management services.[1]

Made some modifications, reflecting my own industry knowledge.--Parvus 22:33, 14 August 2013 (MDT)

The mutual fund definition is too broad for Canada. Unless it's a bank fund, the mutual fund company markets the fund, and generally, but not always, manages the portfolio. It does appoint the portfolio manager. The daily fund accounting is usually in-house, but subject to third-party auditing. Custodianship and record-keeping for corporate actions is generally outsourced.--Parvus 22:47, 14 August 2013 (MDT)

There's a talk page for mutual fund company as well.

Parvus, I think you removed Investment dealer as a location for accounts. Can they not hold accounts? I'm thinking of the companies like what DanH works for. I'm not sure how they work.--Newguy 07:49, 15 August 2013 (MDT)
