Bonds vs Fixed Income

shakespeare,

I've changed the asset class page to specify bonds instead of fixed income and moved the pref share discussion that was under fixed income to Canadian equities. Rather than screwing around with your work here and probably messing it up, I'll leave it to you to eliminate the fixed income distinction as you see fit.--yielder 19:27, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Changed terminology, indicated usage was colloquial and "bonds" included cash.--Shakespeare 23:54, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Category

This needs a category. Financial Planning? --Shakespeare 03:21, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Does it? It's a Main Page item which puts it at the top of the hierarchy. The financial planning category is included in the page so using it would be a bit loopy.--yielder 03:27, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
If you don't give it a category, you can't get at it from the category page. Perhaps category Main?--Shakespeare 03:36, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I went through all of the pages referenced on PD&C and added Category:Portfolio design and construction to each. That's the convention I've been using when setting up categories.--yielder 04:28, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but how do you get to the base pages themselves? They should also be accessible from the category menu. If no base page can be a member of its own category, then a higher-level category is needed to support it. The obvious one is Main, since then all pages except Main itself would be categorized. Main is accessible from the side menu, so it's still one click away. Otherwise, getting to a base page from the category page needs a separate navigation sequence via the side menu. It's better if all pages, except for the main page, can be accessed by a similar navigation sequence. --Shakespeare 04:36, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

2009 to present?

Given the events of 2008-09, it would be helpful to update data at least end of 2011 and show the impact of a major downturn that is alluded to in the article. Would it make sense to maintain the returns information in either a) a table or b) a Google doc widget? --Peculiar Investor 18:58, 27 November 2012 (MST)

Three fund and four fund portfolios

The nomenclature of non-Canadian equities in this section is a bit confused, or confusing, because "international" is being used instead of "global". In Canada, typically, "global stocks" are all stocks except Canadian ones. International stocks, in contrast, are stocks from countries outside Canada and the US. So US stocks are included in "global" but not "international". The wording of the section is easy for me to fix, but not the images, so I'm not doing anything for now --Quebec 14:10, 22 December 2014 (MST)

I can take care of the images. What do you want to change? This page is a direct copy of [[Simple portfolios]]. I recommend making your changes there.
Because Portfolio design and construction indents the sections one level, including Simple portfolios directly doesn't work. Instead, we copied the text and manually adjusted the heading levels. It's possible to break things into templates or sub-pages, but that gets complicated.
Or... just make the changes in [[Simple portfolios]] and myself or another editor can take care of this page. The FWF thread: Simple Portfolios 2014 --LadyGeek 18:00, 22 December 2014 (MST)
This is one of finiki's most highly viewed pages, so care must be taken when updating/improving. As it happening now, it would be beneficial to discussion any significant changes via this Talk page before implementing them. --Peculiar Investor 05:52, 23 December 2014 (MST)
